Modified theories of gravity: Why, how and what?

چکیده
General relativity (GR) was proven via the direct detection of gravitational waves from mergers binary black holes and neutron stars by advanced LIGO virgo detectors. These detections confirmed prediction GR provided first evidence existence stellar-mass (BHs). However, occurrence singularities at centers BHs suggests that is inapplicable because breakdown equivalence principle singularities. The fact these exist indicates cannot be a universal theory space–time. In low-energy limit, theoretical observational challenges faced $$\Lambda $$ CDM model also indicate we might have to look beyond as underlying gravity. Unlike GR, whose field equations contain only up second-order derivatives, modified theories with higher derivative Ricci/Riemann tensor gravity models include derivatives. Therefore, one expects significant differences between theories. Since there are many ways modifying in strong-gravity cosmological distances, each has unique features. This leads following crucial question: Are set signatures distinguish (MG) theories? review discusses three aspects MG theories: (1) Why do need consider (2) How modify GR? (3) What consequences? written pedagogical style expectation it will serve useful reference for theorists observers those interested bridging divide observations.

Theories in Information Visualization: What, Why and How
In this paper we explore the perceived absence and greater need for theories in information visualization through the perspectives of what, why and how. We discuss five possible forms of theory: law, model, framework, taxonomy and interpretation (the “what”), the reasons and potential benefits of theories (the “why”) and possible ways to generate theories (the “how”).
متن کاملCosmological singularities and modified theories of gravity
We consider perturbative modifications of the Friedmann equations in terms of energy density corresponding to modified theories of gravity proposed as an alternative route to comply with the observed accelerated expansion of the universe. Assuming that the present matter content of the universe is a pressureless fluid, the possible singularities that may arise as the final state of the universe...
متن کامل3D weak lensing: Modified theories of gravity
Weak lensing (WL) promises to be a particularly sensitive probe of both the growth of large-scale structure as well as the fundamental relation between matter density perturbations and metric perturbations, thus providing a powerful tool with which we may constrain modified theories of gravity (MG) on cosmological scales. Future deep, wide-field WL surveys will provide an unprecedented opportun...
متن کاملAccelerating Universe in Modified Theories of Gravity
We study cosmologies in modified theories of gravity considering Lagrangian density f(R) which is a polynomial function of scalar curvature (R) in the Einstein-Hilbert action in vacuum. The field equation obtained from the modified action corresponding to a Robertson-Walker metric is highly non-linear and not simple enough to obtain analytic solution. Consequently we adopt a numerical technique...
متن کاملInflationary Cosmology in Modified Gravity Theories
We review inflationary cosmology in modified gravity such as R gravity with its extensions in order to generalize the Starobinsky inflation model. In particular, we explore inflation realized by three kinds of effects: modification of gravity, the quantum anomaly, and the R term in loop quantum cosmology. It is explicitly demonstrated that in these inflationary models, the spectral index of sca...
